Holy Cow, The Nissan Armada Is A Tall Boy
Nissan released the 2025 Armada in September. It’s based on the Patrol that’s sold globally since the 1950s but has been called the Armada in North America for some time now. Essentially, this is to Nissan just like the Land Cruiser is to Toyota.
The Armada is Japan’s answer to the full-size family SUV that will compete against the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition in the US. New for 2025 is the Pro-4X, which is Nissan-speak for the dedicated off-roader variant of its utility models. 9.6 inches of ground clearance. This has a Jeep-like approach angle of 33.0 degrees, a 25.5-degree breakover angle, a 24.5 degree departure angle which will bode well off the beaten path.
But what’s most impressive is the ground clearance. The 2025 Nissan Armada has up to 9.6 inches available at your disposal thanks to adaptive electronic air suspension, which bodes well with the undercarriage skid plate and chunky all-terrain tires.
To put in perspective how epic 9.6 inches is, the Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 sits at 8.0 inches and the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro sits at 9.1 inches off the ground. You have to look at the Jeep Wagoneer and the most extreme Ford Expedition Timberline for an even taller vehicle. However, those fall on the extreme end of the spectrum in terms of sheer size.
Beyond that, it can tow up to 8,500 pounds which is good for most camper trailers. What makes that possible is a twin-turbo V-6 engine that replaces the archaic and thirsty V-8 of old.
The Nissan Armada isn’t trying to be the biggest family vehicle imaginable. But that doesn’t mean it can’t give you the tools to be the most versatile.
