Welcome To The Restart
Hello! It’s me, the Veracious Buick Owner — least of all, known on The Autopian — with new material. But this is a little bit different. I’ve written before, and I’ve published before, on various publications over the course of 4 years. Have I always wanted to do more? Of course, but here I ran into a few problems.
Firstly, an idea sounds good for about 10 minutes before I discard it. Secondly, journals are a bitch to keep up with. No matter how good my penmanship is, it seems the most I can commit to the literary arts is confined to yellow legal pads. Hundreds — maybe a thousand — of pages sit in my cozy apartment full of thoughts, ambitions, goals; what have you.
Thirdly, opinions are nothing if not impactful. Per Fran Lebowitz, the people with the most opinions have many because they are powerless. Me? I am a person full of opinions, and a lifetime achievement would be to speak nary a word. But even I know that won’t come yet.
So what’s different about this Restart above all the others? Structure.
A plan of what to write. An agenda of what to tackle. A calendar of what to cover, be it current events or in a historical context. It helps when you’re making friends (slowly) in the auto journalism business, and can finally get some proper feedback without feeling less of who you believe you are.
You’re going to see me talk about basically 3 things: how the week is going, cars that are good but perceived bad, and cars that will not — shall not — be forgotten, no matter what reputation precedes it. Believe me, there are some obvious contenders that are memorable. But there are ones that you forget until you’re reminded, and it tastes of nostalgia like butter on toast.
And who better to hear it from than from somebody living the dream? I have a Buick as mentioned, but also a newish Miata that I bought with just 5 miles on the odometer. Someday I’ll spill more on the cars I own. But, I have a running list of wheels that I want to drive at least once. As I remain powerless, the world is burning. So let me live the good moments.
In the meantime, I hope this is pleasant reading for 1 or 100 or thousands of you readers. If you support me in this rebooted journey, I thank you in advance. All I ask in return is your patience and that you subscribe.
I’ll check in soon.
